Department of Short and Professional Courses: Short and Professional Courses Department

University education has always been the dream of any young person interested in pursuing knowledge. However due to the examination techniques and objectives, many of these young people fail to secure necessary grade to join university, thus frustrating their dreams and aspirations. There has been a clear cut differentiation between the degree offering institutions and the certificate and or diploma offering institutions. Gradually however this separation is dying and universities are now involved in helping those who failed to secure the necessary grades access university training through offering of certificate and diploma courses. This has been necessitated by the belief in most people that universities as centers of academic excellence are better equipped to develop professionals.

To fulfill this mandate, ANU is offering a wide variety of certificate and diploma courses, with the dual aim of creating and equipping professionals in their areas, as well as, providing opportunities for those interested in pursuing degree training. To achieve this, therefore, courses are prepared to meet the two objectives:  equip learners in skills necessary for employment and self improvement, as well as lead to the next level of training for educationally minded persons.

To make them accessible to as many people as possible, training is offered in five modes, namely: regular day, evening learning, school based, on-line, and weekend offering. The modes are hoped to allow various category of workers and students to access training.

Offering of the programmes is expected to grow gradually to cover the whole country, East A frica regions and beyond. Since January 2011, courses are being offered in three campuses, namely Ongata Rongai (regular, evening, weekend, online, school based), Nairobi city center (regular, evening) and in Meru town. We also have training in three centres: Kisii, Eldoret and Machakos.
