- Why is the library called “The Grace Roles Library”?
The library is named after Grace Roles, a woman vitally interested in mission work throughout the continent of Africa. She was involved in a very significant way in the financing of our university, making possible the purchase of the land and a major part of the Grace Roles Library. Grace Roles and her family also offered deep prayer support for the work here in Africa. - What are classification systems and cataloging systems?
These are systems used to identify and group together like and related subjects, whereby a unique number is assigned to identify each item and assist in organising knowledge for easier retrieval. - Which classification system is used by Grace Roles Library?
Grace Roles and most university libraries use the Library of Congress classification scheme, which includes use of both numeric and alphabetical characters, (Alphanumeric). e.g. BX 8699 .F43 2004 - Where do I start in my searches?
The catalog is the starting point of any search, showing all the items in stock. Grace Roles uses both electronic and manual catalogs. All the current materials are found in the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC). - Where can I find online journals?
These can be accessed on the Internet via our Electronic Resources page, alternatively one can also visit the circulation desk in person and the staff will be more than willing to assist. - What if the book I am interested in is not available in the shelves?
A book in the library may be missing for various reasons. It might be borrowed by a patron, might be currently used at the reading desks, or could be mis-shelved. The library staff are able to assist in finding materials during library hours. - What if the book I am interested in is not available in the library?
Patrons are recommended to suggest their requests whenever they identify a valuable item that is not stocked. The library sources the item from other libraries in Kenya (Inter-Library loaning services) on behalf of the patron. - What if I want more information?
